Why Online Counselling Can Be a Comfortable and Accessible Way to Get Support.

At Therapy with Jem, I know that seeking support isn’t always easy—and that for many people, getting to a therapy room in person can feel like a barrier in itself. That’s one of the reasons I offer online counselling: so you can access therapy in a way that feels more manageable, flexible, and comfortable for you.

Online sessions can work beautifully for all kinds of people, but they can be especially supportive if you’re neurodivergent or living with limited mobility or chronic health conditions.

Here’s how online therapy can gently meet you where you are:

You Don’t Have to Leave the House

If your body or energy levels make travel difficult, or if you’re managing pain, fatigue, or mobility issues, simply getting to a therapy appointment can feel like a mountain to climb.

With online sessions, you can talk to me from the comfort of your own space—whether that’s your bed, your sofa, or a quiet corner with a blanket and a cuppa. You don’t need to worry about transport, buildings, or what you’re wearing. You just need to show up, as you are.

Designed Around Your Comfort

For neurodivergent folks—whether you’re autistic, have ADHD, or experience sensory overload—online counselling can offer a space that feels much more in your control. Bright waiting rooms, unpredictable environments, small talk with strangers… these things can be exhausting and even overwhelming.

When we meet online, you can set up your space in whatever way works best for you. You can fidget, stim, mute your camera if needed, or even have your pet with you. We’ll work together in a way that supports your brain and your nervous system, not against it.

Less Executive Load

Many neurodivergent people deal with executive functioning challenges—things like planning, getting ready, or shifting between tasks. Online counselling can take a big chunk of that pressure away.

You don’t have to navigate transport, time your day around travel, or manage the transitions of getting somewhere new. Just click a link and you’re in the session. Simple, low-stress, and accessible.

More Choice, Less Compromise

Online therapy also means you’re not limited to therapists in your local area. You can choose someone who gets it—someone who’s neurodivergent-affirming, trauma-aware, and comfortable adapting therapy to fit your needs.

At Therapy with Jem, I welcome clients who might have felt like they didn’t quite fit in traditional therapy spaces. Online work means we can tailor things to you—whether that’s switching to phone calls, using written communication, or adjusting the pace.

A Safe First Step

I understand that reaching out for therapy can feel scary—especially if you’ve had difficult experiences in the past, or if you’re dealing with anxiety or trauma. Being able to connect from home can make that first step feel a little safer.

You can show up as you are, in a space that feels okay for you, knowing that you’re in control of how the session goes.

You’re Welcome Here, Just As You Are

If you’ve been thinking about therapy but felt unsure because of physical, emotional, or sensory barriers—online counselling might be a good fit for you. I’m here to work with you to find a way of doing therapy that feels safe, respectful, and right for your needs.

I’m always happy to answer questions or have a short, no-pressure chat to see if this could work for you.
